FLL Explanation
What is FLL?
FLL (First Lego League) is a competition to inspire young people. It consists of four main parts, the robot game, the innovation project, the robot design, and core values.
The Robot Game
The Robot Game is when you have a robot that tries to complete fifteen missions in 2:30. You have a drive base, which is the robot. Then, you have some attachments that can be easily attached to the motors or drive base to complete the missions. You will have three chances to do your best.
Restrictions:
All of the attachments must fit in one or two home areas. These attachments cannot be more than 12 inches tall.
When launching, you must start from the home area and the entire robot cannot be more than 12 inches tall.
Technicians may not make contact with the robot outside of the home area unless you have completed all your missions. If your robot does get stuck, you can grab it back to the home area. However, you will lose a precision token.
Precision Tokens:
If you make contact with your robot outside of the home area, then you will lose a precision token. These precision tokens will contribute to all your points.
Points:
Every mission and precision token is worth points. The team with the most points at the end wins the robot game.

The Innovation Project
Each year, the innovation project has a theme. For example, this year's (2024 - 2025) is about the ocean. Masterpiece was about your favorite hobbies. You will have to create something or give an idea about how to improve about that topic. For example, the video on the right will show you what we did for last year's innovation project. It is a sugar painting machine! You will also have to prepare a presentation about your innovation project and how you came up with this idea.
The Robot Design
Like the Innovation Project, this is a presentation about how you designed your drive base, attachments, and strategies. For example, you could talk about how a specific code helped you or you could talk about passive attachments.
The Core Values
The Core Values are things like teamwork and effort. They are abilities that you have to show to the judges. For example, the list below:
Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.
Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.
Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.
Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.
Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!
